Dussehra Recipe: Chickpea Sundal
Chickpea Sundal This is a tasty and filling dish for Dussehra! You can omit the chilies if your children do not like spicy things.
What You Need:
- 2 cups of chickpeas
- 2-3 tbsp fresh grated coconut
- 2 dried red chilies, roughly chopped (optional)
- 7-8 curry leaves
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- A pinch of hing (asafetida)
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- Fresh coriander leaves for a garnish
How to Make:
- Soak chickpeas overnight in warm water, and then pressure-cook until almost done. Drain the chickpeas and set them aside.
- Heat the oil or ghee in a deep pan.
- Add the mustard seeds and hing.
- Turn down to a medium heat.
- When the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add the curry leaves and the red chilies.
- When the mixture starts to give off a strong smell, add the chickpeas and cook for 7-10 mins.
- Add the coconut and salt and mix well.
- Serve warm, garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
