''Kamarajar Valley, also known as “Athoor”, is situated in the Western Ghats in the spur of Palni Hills, 300 meters above sea level. With a beautiful landscape and a varied ecology, Kamarajar Valley is blessed with tropical climate.
Coconut and mango tree are found in plenty and the region also has a good wildlife. Animals spotted in the area include: leopards, mongoose, monkeys, bison and wild boars.

The valley is also perfect for activities like trekking. With the main trekking path being Mukurthi Trail which is at a height of about 2,500 m, trekking is quite popular here. One can also go for long and leisure walks. The place is perfect for the activity of bird watching too with varied kinds of birds residing in the valley.

The best time to visit Kamarajar is from the month of October to March. It is better to avoid visiting during the rainy season.
PLACES AROUND KAMARAJAR
Kamarajar Lake - Kamarajar Lake is one of the major tourist attractions. The lake presents its guests with captivating scenic beauty and a relaxed atmosphere. You can spot many different kinds of birds near the lake. Some of these are peacocks, herons, cranes, sun-birds, kingfishers and storks. Apparently, there are more than 160 species of birds here.
Sandayandi Temple - Located in a hill cave around Kamarajar, the Sandayandi Temple is a popular tourist spot. An ancient temple, the Sandayandi has high religious significance amongst Hindus even today.
Mukurthi Trekking Trail - Trekking is a very popular activity among tourists visiting Kamarajar Valley. It is certainly the best ways to explore the countryside. The main trekking path is Mukurthi Trail which is located in the south west region of the Nilgiris set at an altitude of about 2,500 m. Permission is required from the Forest Range Officer to trek up to the peak. However it is not easy to get such permission.
Double Dutch Resort - Located on the spurs of Palani Hills bordered by Kamarajar Lake this Dutch run resort is spread over 8-acres. Food is a mix of Indian, European, Indonesian and Mexican cuisine (Rs.900/person), enriched with farm fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, cheese and curd, besides homemade jams, bread and Dutch coffee.

Air: The nearest airport is Madurai domestic terminal which is located at a distance of about 100 km from Kamarajar. Madurai is well connected to many other cities like Chennai. One can hire taxi from here to Kamarajar.
Rail: The nearest rail head is Dindigul Junction which is situated 25 km away from Kamarajar. The station is connected to Madurai and Chennai. One can hire taxi from station to the destination.
Road: Tamil Nadu state road transport buses are running between Kamarajar and other areas in and around Madurai. You also have buses from Madurai to Kamarajar.
