It is said that this place is a heaven and is resplendent with natural beauty and breathtaking scenery. It has the peculiarity of being the first area in the Nilgiris to have been inhabited by the British Government officials and was the first preference for several Madras Government servants to use as a summer retreat.

Kotagiri is also very popular for its Catherine Fall, Kodanad Fall, Elk falls, Longwood Shola and Rangasamy Pea etc. “Kodanad View Point” is a must see place located near Kotagiri for incredible views of the surrounding valleys and the plains.Kotagiri is known to be the first place where cash crops like coffee, tea and other spices were planted. As Kotagiri experiences mild temperature all round the year, the best time to visit the hill resort is any time of the year.

PLACES AROUND KOTAGIRI

Catherine Falls - Water plummets from a height of 250 ft here. Classified as double cascade waterfall, the trek up to the waterfall goes through thick forests and lets you view some amazing landscapes on the way.

Kodanad View Point - It is 18 kms away from Kotagiri on the easternmost ridges of the Blue Mountains and hence the name meaning Terminus Country.

Elk Falls - The beauty of the falls attracts many tourists here. There is an exquisite European house that was built during the colonial rule of the British in India.

Long Wood Shola - About 3 km from the town, the road proceeding towards the Badaga village of "Milidhane" branes off to Longwood Shola which is Forest Reserve.

Rangaswamy Peak and Pillar - It is 20 kms from Kotagiri via Kil-Kotagiri. The conical peak exudes an exhilarating view of the wild yet harmonious semblance of the country lying around.

St. Catherine’s Fall - is an eight kilometer trek near Aravenu. The water cascades down in two steps from a height of 250 feet. It is also known as Geddhehaada Halla. The falls is named after Catherine, the wife of the first ever British coffee planter in Kotagiri and Yercaud, M. D. Cockburn.

Kamatraya Temple - This temple is sacred to the Kota tribe and they worship at this temple every month. There is an annual festival on the Arudra Darshan day, which is an important day for the tribe.
