Mount abu

''Located at the southwestern end of the Aravalli hills at a height of 1220m, Mount Abu is the only hill station of the royal state Rajasthan.It is built arround a lake and surrounded by hills and is the most popular summer resort. Its cool climate, lovely lakes, and breathtaking beautiful Jain temples attracts tourists on a large scale.
The lushness of Mount Abu makes the hill resort being referred to as the paradise of Rajasthan. There are also interesting treks & picnic spots with awe inspiring scenic beauty. ''

The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar, at 1722 meters above sea level. It is referred to as 'an oasis in the desert', as its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. This is also the highest point between the Nilgiris in the south and the Himalayan range up north.

Mount Abu is also well known for the famous Dilwara temples and many more archaeological remains. There are interesting treks and picnic spots, romantic royal retreats of the various erstwhile families of bygone Rajputana and some relics of the Raj period.

Summers are said to be the most enjoyable time for holidays in Mount Abu but winters have many colors on exhibition in the form of New Year and Winter Festival celebration.

PLACES AROUND MOUNT ABU

Dilwara Jain Temples - These exquisitely carved Jain temples were built between the 11th and the 13th century AD. Dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras, these five marble temples showcase the highly developed aesthetic and artistic sensibilities of craftsmen of the time.

Nakki Lake - The Nakki Lake, at a height of 1200 meters, is the highest artificial lake in India. It is located in the heart of the town and is is believed to have carved out by the Gods using their fingernails. Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are also on hills near Nakki Lake. Boating facility is also available in this lake.

Summer Festival - The Summer Festival is held every year in the month of Aashadh (June). The steep rocks, tranquil lakes, picturesque locations and the pleasant climate of Mount Abu make it an ideal location for the festival.

View Points - Several points around the edge of the plateau offer spectacular views across the plains. The best are Honeymoon Point (Anadra Point) and Sunset Point, where hundred of people gather to watch the sunset every evening in a carnival atmosphere of pony rides and souvenir sellers.

Museum and Art Gallery - Located in Raj Bhawan Complex, these exhibit the art, craft, artifacts and sculptures dating back to 8th to 12th century.

Achaleshwar Mahadev - With idols of Lord Shiva, Nandi-the bull and stone buffalos, the complex is typical Jain architecture built in 15th century. The temple is a part of Achalgarh Fort.
Sant Sarovar, Sankar Math, Dattatrey Temple, Vashishta Ashram are some other temples in Mount Abu and nearby.

CLIMATE

Like all the hill stations, Mount Abu has summers not as chilly as winters, but both the seasons have their importance and show for which people swarm in here. Summers are considered from April to June, where as winters are considered from November to February. Rainfall is recorded generally in the months of August and September.

HOW TO REACH THERE

Air: Nearest Airport is Udaipur but flight connectivity to Ahmadabad is better. From here, taxi to Mount Abu could be hired easily.

Rail: Abu road is the nearest railway station, which is connected with all the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmadabad and Jaipur.

Road: From National Highway 14, tourists on road can reach to Mount Abu.
