Bandhavgarh National Park is known for the Royal Bengal Tigers. The density of the Tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest known in India. The national park is situated at 197 km away north-east of Jabalpur. This wild life park derived its very name from an ancient fort in the area. Bandhawgarh National Park belongs to the Vindhyan mountain ranges of central India and it boasts to have the highest density of tiger population in the country. ''

Bandhavgarh National Park has a rich historical past. Before becoming a national park, the forests in the surroundings of Bandhavgarh had been maintained for the purpose of Shikargah, or game preserve, meant for the Maharajas along with their guests.

The park is home to around 22 animal species and 250 avifauna species. Some of the animals which can be sighted during safari include Rhesus Macaque, Langurs, Wild Pigs, Asiatic Jackal, Striped Hyena, Bengal Fox, Nilgai, Gaur, Ratel, Jungle Cat, Tiger, Sloth Bear, Chausingha, Palm Squirrel, Dhole, and so on. The park has around 37 mammal species and 73 species of butterlies. The other animals that form a common sight includeWhite-eyed Buzzard, Cobra, Turtle, Viper, Crested Serpent Eagle, White-eyed Buzzard, Kingfishers, Dove, Indian Rollers, Common Peafowl, Varanus, Rat-snake, Kingfishers, Adjutant Sarus Crane, Lesser Whistling Teal and Jungle Fowl. The flora includes Bamboo, Sal, Saja, Tendu, Salai, Arjun, Khair, Haldu, Dhaman, kalasiris, Kusum, Dhaman, Kapo, Amaltas, Jamun, Ambla, Mahua, Dhauda and more.
