'' Gopalpur is a village situated near Palampur on Palampur-Dharamsala upper road. Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh is another area where visitors come regularly. The Nature Park Gopalpur aims at creating awareness about different birds and animals native to the Himalayas. As for the vegetation the area consists of mainly Alpine forests. There are several trekking trails around the park. A visit to the nature park educates visitors about the Himalayan nature and wildlife.
The Nature Park Gopalpur is also known as the Gopalpur Zoo and also as the Dhauladhar National Park. The area has temperate weather all around the year; hence the park can be visited at any time of the year. However, the monsoon months are not recommended as the area is prone to landslides.

Attractions in Nature Park

The nature park comprises of wet temperate Himalayan forests. The main vegetation in the park includes oak, maple, pine, deodar, walnut, fir, bamboo, kali, khair and horse chestnut. There are also fruit trees in the area such as apple, strawberry, raspberry and cherry.

The animals in the park are housed in huge enclosures. Visitors to the park get a chance to observe and study the birds and animals native to the Himalayas closely. Some animals in the park include the musk deer, barking deer, black bear, hyena, tiger, sambar, leopard and wild boar. There are also a number of birds that find shelter in Nature Park Gopalpur. Some of these birds include the cheer, kaleej, monal and koklass.

Best Time to Visit Nature Park

April to June in summers and from November to February in winters. Avoid travelling during monsoon months as the area is prone to landslides.

Air: The closest airport to nature park is the Gaggal Airport.

Rail: Pathankot is the closest rail head to the Nature Park Gopalpur about 115Km from Palampur. A narrow gauge railway line has connectivity till Maranda about 4Km from Palampur.

Road: The Nature Park of Gopalpur is near Palampur Upper Road on the Palampur - Dharamshala highway. Regular buses and private transportation are available to the nature park.
