''Ziro with its smell and taste of nature at its very best has its own inhabitants called the Apa Tani tribals. These tribes are not Nomadic in nature and they thrive on wet lands. They flourish and are well settled, being agriculturists. The rivers Subansiri, Nishi, Apa Tani, Dafla and Miri sustain their livelihood. Yet another produce is bamboo from which their houses, food and clothing are made. The sunrise at Ziro is at 4.30 am and the sun sets at 4.30 pm. The landscape is simply too beautiful with rolling hills and green valleys.

Ziro is inhabited by more than 30,000 Apatani tribal people. One of the most advanced tribal groups in Arunchal Pradesh state, they famous for the conservation and Paddy-cum-Fish culture which is unique amongst the Arunachal tribals. They also have a unique home bamboo plantations. A visit to an Apatani tribal home is a must. As per folklore, the women of the Apatani tribes were so beautiful that they wanted to look unattractive to males from neighboring tribes. So they were driven to safeguard themselves by tattooing and putting coin-sized nose plugs. Now these system been banned.
PLACES AROUND ZIRO
Kile Pakho - The ridge is 7 kms. away from old Ziro. The snow range of the Himalayas called ‘Nyime Pembu’ can be seen on a clear day from this ridge.
Midey - A 2 kms. trek from old Ziro is Midey, the home of a blue pine tree which has a girth of 7 metres. This tree happens to be the tallest and biggest tree in Apatani valley.
Dolo Mando - A hillock where the legendary love story of Dolo and Mando makes its round in the peaceful village. On to one side of the hillock, old Ziro village can be seen and on to the other is Hapoli town.
Tarin Fish Farm - A high altitude fish breeding farm. The fingerlings are sold to the farmers after paddy cultivation for breeding.
Siva Lingam - A Nepalese was cutting trees in the Kardo forest when he chanced upon a Siva Linga and images of Goddess Parvathi and Lord Ganapathy. It is believed that Goddess of water, Ganga lives within and there is water oozing out at the base of the Siva Linga. The Linga is located about 4 kms. from Hapoli town.
HOW TO REACH THERE
Air: The nearest airport to Ziro is at Tezpur, which is located at a distance of 300 km. The airport at Tezpur is connected to Kolakata and Silchar by weekly flights. Taxis are available at the Tezpur airport to go onwards to Ziro.
Rail: Ziro does not have its own railway station and the nearest railway station is at Tezpur, which is located at a distance of 300 km. Tezpur is well connected to various parts of the country and tourists can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Ziro.
Road: State Government run buses are available to Ziro from Itanagar, the state capital. These buses depart everyday and are reasonable and cost between Rs.100 to 200.
