In spite of fact that the United States is the most preferred destination for Indian students, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand is seeing a steady increase in the number of Indian students pursuing higher studies, according to industry experts.
“The U.S. has always been the most-sought-after destination among Indian students, but New Zealand, Canada, and Australia have relaxed their policies and are also offering work permit for up to 3 years. All these factors will lead to an increase in the number of students going to these countries,” said Rohit Sethi, Director, ESS Global, an overseas education consulting firm.
Recently, Australia announced ‘Additional Temporary Graduate’ visa which allows you to remain in Australia to live, study or work for a year after you have finished your graduating the regional campus of the registered university.
“Lot of countries are trying to tap India and China as the majority of the students from these two countries go abroad for higher education,” said Naveen Chopra, Founder, The Chopras, a study abroad consultant.
Many universities in non-English speaking countries are also offering popular courses in English, he added.

He said engineering courses are by far the biggest attraction for Indian students who go abroad for higher education followed by business, which includes management etc.
