Claremont University Professor Dr. Samir Chatterjee Receives Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award
Dr. Samir Chatterjee, an Indian American professor at Claremont Graduate University, was recently honored with the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award.
Samir Chatterjee, an Indian American professor at Claremont Graduate University in Southern California, was recently awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman honor by the NRI Welfare Society of India.
Chatterjee was awarded the honor given to nonresident Indians for outstanding services, achievements and contributions for keeping the flag of India high.
“This prestigious recognition for global achievement is given to only about 30 people per year among over 16 million Indians living outside India,” Chatterjee said in a news release. “It is a tremendous honor to receive this prodigious recognition on a global stage.”
Chatterjee is an internationally recognized computer scientist, a thought leader in the field of design science and highly regarded researcher/scholar in the field of healthcare information technology.
He is the Fletcher Jones chair of technology, management and design at CGU as well as an adjunct professor of innovation and design at the University of Southern California’s Iovine and Young Academy.
In addition to his Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman honor, the professor in June was named the winner of the Schöller Senior Fellowship by the Dr. Theo and Friedl Schöller Research Center for Business and Society at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany.
Previously, Chatterjee received the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association of Information Systems for his contributions to the field of design science in 2015.
The Indian American professor is also the founder and chief executive officer of DCL Health LLC, a wireless healthcare technology startup in Los Angeles.
When not serving as an academic, Chatterjee also has a musical career, in which he has composed music for a commercial Bengali film, given music in a Hollywood cross-over film and recently composed and recorded two duets with legendary Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu.
The NRI Welfare Society of India is an organization established to strengthen bonds between India and non-resident Indians.
Chatterjee will be presented with the award Sept. 27 at the Global Indian Summit in London.
