India is a land of ancient forts and monuments,which describe its deep manifested past. Two forts in India are UNESCO world heritage sites the Agra fort and the Red fort. Forts and Palaces of India are the country’s treasured,present the magnamity of the Royal Kingdoms of India. Types of Ancient Indian Forts are Jal durg,Giri durg and Vana durg. Qila Mubarak a historical monument in Bathinda is the oldest surviving fort in India. There are a number of famous forts in India,while Rajasthan has the most number of forts, Some of the major forts of India are Hari Parbat Fort, Rohtasgarh Fort, Bekal Fort and Uparkot Fort.

1. Maharangarh Fort:

The Great Mehrangarh Fort is located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan, It is more then 500 years old and one of the largest forts in India.The Mehrangarh Fort is situated 400 above form the city and founded by Rao Jodha. There are seven gates built by each Maharaja’s for their victory,A gate named Jayapol built by Maharaja Man Singh. Inside the fort, several brilliantly crafted and decorated palaces are found like Moti Mahal,Sheesha Mahal etc. The Chamunda Devi temple and museum is situated inside of the Mehrangarh Fort. The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan. The Royal State Rajasthan is great for many reasons,it is one of the most visited tourist destination in India. 2. Red Fort, Delhi

A red sandstone structure which presents India before the world, Red Fort in Delhi is rightly been called the pride of the city and of India too.

Inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this magnificent red citadel is but just a ghost of its former glory days. Red Fort in Delhi was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the 17th century AD.

It took around 10 years to complete and is originally referred to as ‘Quila-e-Mubarak’ as royal family used to live there. Inside the fort, there are public and private halls, mosques, gardens and alongside this runs the river Yamuna.

3. Gwalior Fort, Madhya Pradesh

It is another well preserved and maintained fort in India which has colorful artworks inscribed in its inner and outer walls and pillars. It is so massive and alluring, that India Postal Service has issued a postal stamp with the photo of this fort.

The Mughal Emperor Babur once described is as “the pearl in the necklace of the forts of Hind”. From the fort, you can also savor the panoramic view of the old Gwalior. Gwalior Fort also occupies a unique place in the human civilization as the place which has the first ever recorded the use of zero.

4. Golkonda Fort, Hyderabad

The famous Golconda fort located at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, built by Kakatiya kings. The heritage monument is known for its rich history and a majestic and imposing grand structure. Golkonda was once renowned for the Magnificent diamonds found on the south-east at Kollur Mine near Kollur lake. The awesome Golconda Fort is famous for its military architecture and One of the most wonderful monuments in India. 5. Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan

Jaisalmer fort,one of the largest forts in the world,situated in the state of Rajasthan,built by Rawal Jaisal. The magnificent foundation of Jaisalmer Fort is situated in the midst of the sandy terrain of the Great Thar Desert. Jaisalmer fort is also known as Sonar quila and “Golden Fort, built on the triangular shaped Trikuta hill, 76 m above the town. The second oldest fort in the state of Rajasthan counted as one of the most invincible forts in India. Major attractions inside the forts are Jain temples,Royal palace and big gates. Jaisalmer is the land of sand also famous for it Trikuta Hill,Havelis, palace and Lakes.

6. Agra Fort, Agra

Though the city of Agra is most famous for its iconic Taj Mahal, but there are several other architectural wonders that still make it one of the best destination for a cultural tour to India.

The red giant structure of Agra fort speaks volumes about the Mughal dynasty, their rise and fall in the country of India. While you enter inside this fort, a beautifully manicured lawn gives you a green carpet welcome.

There are different palaces inside this red citadel most of which were built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. This chivalric king also had spent his last years in a high towering palace of Red Fort from where Taj Mahal can be seen clearly.

7. Kangra Fort: Kangra

The famous Kangra fort built by the Royal family of Kangra, situated on the confluence of the Banganga and Manjhi Rivers in the Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. The famous monumental fort is count amongst the oldest forts in the world. It is the largest fort in the Himalayas and the oldest forts in India, The most valuable monuments in the Kangra Fort is Vajreshwari temple. 8. Chittorgarh Fort, Chittorgarh

If Chittorgarh is the pride of Rajasthan, then Chittorgarh Fort must be its icon. Stretches in a huge area, the fort bears witness to a time when royal people preferred to die before submitting themselves to the enemies.

The folklore about the gallantry of Rani Padmini can be still heard when you visit this fort. There are several palaces, temples and public and private halls inside the fort which grab the attention of millions of travelers every year.

9. Amber Fort, Jaipur

A beautiful gemstone in the royal crown of Rajasthan, Jaipur charms the guests with its fleet of palaces and forts. One of the most visited and beguiling of Jaipur forts is the Amber Fort, situated in a serene backdrop of the Aravali Hill.

10. Junagarh Fort, Bikaner

It is a well preserved forts situated at the center of the city of Bikaner in Rajasthan. It is a massive structure with a fleet of art galleries, corridors and courtyards which beautifully display the history, culture and traditions of the city.

A scattering of color can be well witnessed in the halls and rooms of this fortress. Built in the year 1589 AD, this fort was being rules by as many as 20 rulers of Bikaner till 1920 AD.
