1. Indian Museum (Kolkata)
The museum is in Calcutta.It is the India's largest museum in India,it takes 3 days to see the entire museum.Best to visit on December to February. 2. Bharat Kala Bhavan (Varanasi)
The nucleus of Bharat Kala Bhavan evolved in January 1920. Its first Hony. Chairman (for life) was poet Rabindranath Tagore and its Hony. Vice-Chairman was poet’s nephew Silpacharya Abanindranth Tagore. But in reality the credit for the origin and subsequent development of this internationally famous museum goes to Padmavibhushan Late Rai Krishnadasa.

7. Hawa Mahal Museum (Jaipur)
Hawa Mahal is the most famous building in Jaipur which is a part of City Palace complex. It was built for the ladies of the Harem by Sawai Pratap Singh and is a five storey frontage standing on a high podium with an entrance from the West. Hawa Mahal is intricately carved and bordered with white motives. Motifs and carvings designed on the walls of the Hawa Mahal are proof of the efforts, dedication and skillfulness of the artists of that period. Near Hawa Mahal, you have Hawa Mahal Museum.
8. Nehru Memorial Museum (New Delhi)
The Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML) established in the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru (1889 - 1964) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Located in the majestic Teen Murti House,the official residence of the first Prime Minister of India, it has four major constituents namely, a Memorial Museum, a Library on modern India, a Centre for Contemporary.
9. Central Museum (Bhopal)
The Central Museum at Bhopal was recognized in 1949. On sight are paintings, coins, porcelain object, metal and ivory toys and artefact, woodcarvings and a number of miscellaneous items like needle-works and local handicrafts.
10. Tipu Sultan Museum (Mysore)
The Daria Daulat Bagh, which is an ancient monument of national importance, houses the museum. The museum exhibits confined to the ground floor of the palace and mostly pertaining to Tipu Sultan, consists of oil paintings, pencil sketches, aquatints and engravings, coins and medals, costumes, furniture, arms, etc.

11. Jaigarh Fort Museum (Rajasthani)
The Jaigarh Fort is a majestic stronghold built by Sawan Jai Singh II. This almost-intact fort is surrounded by huge battlements and is connected to the Amer Fort (also called 'Amber' Fort), with subterranean passages. Originally built to protect the Amer Fort and the palace within the complex, the Jaigarh Fort is architecturally similar to the Amer Fort, and offers a panoramic view of the city of Jaipur. The fort houses the world's largest cannon on wheels, a majestic palace complex and the assembly hall of the warriors known as 'Shubhat Niwas' along with a museum and an armory.

13. Stok Palace Museum (Leh)
Stok Palace Museum is situated within the Stok Palace, which is essentially the home of the royal family of Ladakh. Visitors can see several royal artefacts, royal crowns, copper coins, precious stones, jewellery, heirlooms, prayer instruments and Thangkas dating back to the 16th century at the museum. Thangkas are known to depict the teachings and life of Lord Buddha.
14. Salar Jung Museum (Hyderabad)

The major portion of this collection was acquired by Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan popularly known as Salar Jung III. 15. Maharaja Sawai Museum (Jaipur)
The Kachchwaha rulers of Amber-Jaipur trace their descent from Kush, the son of Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Ram was the universal monarch, but he divided his entire empire into eight parts amongst his sons and nephews. The offshoots of his second son Kush moved their strongholds from eastern to central India and finally sometime in the11th century Prince Dulha Rai left his patrimony of Narwar for Dausa in Eastern Rajasthan.
16. National Archives Museum (New Delhi)
The National Archives of India is the repository of the non-current records of the Government of India and is holding them in trust for the use of administrators and scholars. It is an Attached Office of the Ministry of Culture. It was set up in March 1891 in Calcutta (Kolkata) as the Imperial Record Department and subsequent to the transfer of the National Capital from Calcutta to New Delhi in 1911 it was shifted to its present building in 1926.

19. Himachal State Museum (Himachal Pradesh)
The State Museum Shimla is housed in an old Victorian mansion carefully altered to adapt it to the museum. Perched on a lonely hilltop known as ‘Inveram’ the serenity and the quietude of the distant mountains from here is striking. Previously, the building remained a private residence of Lord William Beresford, the Military Secretary to the Viceroy, Lord William Bentick. When he left India, the building was occupied by Sir Edwin Collan and thereafter by Sir Edward Law, the Finance member of the Council. Later, it continued to serve as residence of Indian government officials.

20. Sri Pratap Singh Museum (Srinagar)
The museums of Kashmir showcase the rich historical past of the valley. The main museum of Kashmir is the Sri Pratap Singh Museum. Once the summer palace of the Maharajas of Kashmir, it was later converted into a museum in the year 1898. A major portion of the museum collection, at that point of time, consisted of objects from the Jammu and Kashmir toshkhana. The toshkhana collection of this museum of Kashmir, India includes shawls, paintings, arms and armory, silver images, copper and jade ornaments, copper and brass utensils and Ladkhi handicrafts.
