Moong Dal Kadhi Recipe
Kadhi is one of the favourite North-Indian recipes. It is an excellent option for the vegetarians. Kadhi is also a perfect option for those who observe vegetarianism during the ongoing auspicious month of Shravan. Some Hindus, abstain from eating even onions and garlic during this month. So, here is a simple yet lip-smacking vegetarian recipe.
Kadhi is generally prepared with gram flour or besan. First the pakoras are fried out of the besan and then it is cooked with the curd and gram flour based gravy. Here we have added a tasty twist to this recipe by substituting the gram flour with another healthy and tasty option of moong dal or golden lentil. Moong dal adds a delightful flavour to this tangy vegetarian recipe.

Ingredients
- Moong dal (golden lentil)- 1½ cup
- Curd- 2 cups
- Hing (asafoetida)- a pinch
- Cumin seeds- 1tsp
- Fenugreek seeds- 1tsp
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
- Green chillies- 2 (finely chopped)
- Salt- as per taste
- Coriander leaves- 2tbsp (finely chopped)
- Oil- 1tbsp
- Oil- for deep frying
- Water- 2 cup
Procedure
- 1. Soak the moong dal in water for about 3 hours. Aftre that drain the water and grind it into a thick paste in a mixer
- 2. Divide the paste into two halves. Keep one half of the paste aside
- 3. In the other half of the moong dal paste add salt, green chillies and one table spoon of coriander leaves. Mix well together and make small balls out of the dough
- 4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the balls on medium heat till they become golden brown on all the sides
- 5. Transfer the fried pakoras to a paper towel to drain the excess oil
- 6. Now heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, hing and fry for a minute
- 7. Whisk the curd with the other half of the moong dal paste and two cups of water and pour it into the pan
- 8. Bring it to boil
- 9. Add turmeric powder and salt
- 10. Cook on medium flame for about 15-20 minutes
- 11. Keep stirring occasionally
- 12. Now add the fried pakoras and cook for another 10 minutes on low flame
- 13. Once done, switch off the flame
- 14. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
Moong dal kadhi recipe is ready to be served. It goes best with steamed rice and is a perfect meal option during Karwa Chauth.
