Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Preview

Maruti Suzuki is on a roll to introduce models in various body styles and segments and its latest entrant is the Vitara Brezza which will be its competitor for the compact SUV segment. The car will be unveiled on day one of the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to share much with the Swift and Dzire.

Exterior

The Vitara Brezza is a compact SUV in the truest of sense. On the front, it gets the standard chrome Maruti Suzuki grille, special design air intake, projector headlamps and LED DRLs. We can also see fog lamps and a black coloured pseudo bull bar element. Moving over to the side, we can see the square shape, contrast coloured roof, flared wheel arches and wrap around tail lamps. There is currently no view of the rear but we know that the car will get a hatch opening and probably a roof mounted spoiler on the top-spec diesel and petrol variants.

Interior

The cabin is expected to mimic that of the Swift and the Dzire which means we can expect to see the same layout and feature list. The top-spec models are expected to get start-stop function, electrically folding ORVMs, leather seats and climate control system from the Dzire and Swift siblings. However, we also believe that as an optional extra Maruti Suzuki may offer the Apple CarPlay infotainment system found in the Baleno and S-Cross.

Engine and gearbox

The Vitara Brezza will get the same engines and gearbox options from the Swift and Dzire. This means the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel which produce 83bhp/115Nm and 74bhp/190Nm of torque respectively. Both engines are expected to be offered only with a five-speed manual at present. However, the petrol may get the CVT found in the Baleno at a later date. Given that it will be a Maruti Suzuki product, it is expected to have the standard nomenclature of LXi, VXi, LDi, VDi. There are also expected to safety featured enabled ‘+’ models across the entire range. They will get two airbags and ABS with EBD.

Price and competition

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh for the top-spec diesel variant when it is launched later this year. It competes with the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300 in the Indian market.
