10 IPL facts that will amaze you!
The IPL carnival of 47 days has started showing its magic with cricket fans going crazy all over India. Every season, some remarkable records (and some not so remarkable) are made by the players. Adding to the fever of this craziest game, here we are presenting you some of the amazing facts about the Indian Premier League tournament:
1. Doing their bit for saving and creating environmental awareness among their fans, Royal Challengers Bangalore promotes the 'Go Green' initiative by wearing green jerseys for one home match every IPL season. The special jersey, with light green as its predominant colour with shades of cream, replaces the traditional red and gold attire only for that day. The RCB Green Jersey was first unveiled in the year 2011, when Royal Challengers were playing against Kochi at their home ground.
2. Chennai Super Kings is the only team who have been consistent with the design of their jersey in all the IPL seasons. The team's primary color is yellow with blue and orange stripes on either sides of the jersey. The jersey also incorporates the roaring lion logo in the center of the shirt below the logo of the main sponsor. Though there has been a few minor changes, the basic look of the jersey has remained same.
3. The opening match of every new IPL season has featured Mumbai Indians or Kolkata Knight Riders or both. The first match of first season in 2008 was played between KKR and RCB, which KKR won by 140 runs. The second season's first match was on 18th April, 2009 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings which Mumbai won by 19 runs. The 2010's first match was played between KKR and Deccan Chargers where Kolkata defeated DC by 11 runs. IPL 4's first match was between KKR and CSK which KKR lost by 2 runs. Next year, the first match was between CSK and Mumbai Indians which MI won by 8 wickets. IPL 2013's first match was between KKR and Delhi Daredevils which KKR won by 6 wickets. For the first time, the first match of IPL 7 had both KKR and MI which KKR won by 41 runs. And this season again, the first match was played between MI and KKR which KKR again won by 7 wickets.
4. With their consistent poor performance across the Indian Premier League tournament, Delhi Daredevils have been named as the serial loser of the tournament. Out of the total matches they have played (108), they have lost 61 matches. In eight seasons, they have won only 45 matches.
5. The all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is the most expensive player in the history of Indian Premier League. This year, Yuvraj was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping amount of Rs 16 crore. Surprisingly, the prize money for winning the Indian Premier League is Rs 15 crore.
6. The highest partnership in Indian Premier League matches is 206, between Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh, both Aussies, playing for Kings XI Punjab against Royal Challengers Bangalore during Indian Premier League 2011.
7. Sachin Tendulkar and Robin Uthappa are the only two Indian players to have won the Orange Cap, for scoring the maximum runs in the IPL seasons. Sachin won the Orange Cup during Indian Premier League 2010 while playing for Mumbai Indians. He had made 618 runs in that season. Robin Uthappa won the Orange Cap while playing for Kolkata Night Riders during Indian Premier League 2014. He had scored 660 runs in that season.
8. Yusuf Pathan holds the record of scoring fastest 100 (37 balls) in Indian Premier League tournament. Pathan made this record during Indian Premier League 2010 where he was playing for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians.
9. Indian cricket team's captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only captain who remains unchanged in all Indian Premier League seasons. He is also the only player who has played most matches as captain (114). He is the captain of Chennai Super Kings since IPL 2008.
10. Among all the current teams participating in the Indian Premier League, Delhi Daredevils is the only team which has not reached the finals in any season.
