The long coastline of Goa and its pristine beaches do not need any introduction. The beaches of Goa allure a crazy number of tourists from all around the globe, during the winter months and are an important part of the state’s tourism. Although few, there are still some stunningly beautiful and quiet lesser-known and secret beaches of Goa tucked away from the tourist rush and madness. Before, you plan to visit these beaches, do not forget to carry packed lunch as there are no hotels and no beaches shacks near most of them. We present to you this list of secret beaches of Goa that no one told you about.
Kakolem Beach: Secret Beaches of Goa
Also known as Tiger beach, Kakolem beach is a small beach cove that is located in a bay and is one of the most-secluded beaches of Goa. Lying southwards of Cabo de Rama beach, it boasts of abundant scenic beauty. The views of the surroundings, up above of the cliff, is simply stunning. Because of being away from any sort of rush, the sands are pretty clean. The beach is around 31 km away from Margao city. Start driving on NH66 highway towards Cola village, which is the only way to arrive here by land. After a while, you turn north-east, driving on a small path, just off the road takes you to the platform. Take the steep and narrow meandering stairs to finally arrive at Kakolem beach. The easier way is to rent a boat to come here and go back. Close to the beach is a small spring gushing down from a hillside, flowing into the sea later.
Butterfly Beach: Secret Beaches of Goa
Lying 37 km away from Margao, northwards of the Palolem beach, the cutely named Butterfly beach is an unexplored beach, offering unspoilt scenery and much-needed privacy. This tiny beach lies on the Butterfly Island and is a wonderful place with glowing crystal clear waters. As the beach lies amidst a forest, it is no accessible by roads. You can rent a short ride from Agonda or Palolem beach to come here. If you wish to walk up to the beach, the trek through is forest takes around 2 hours but this is worthwhile, because of the serenity. Behind the beach, there is lush and thick vegetation.
Galgibaga Beach
The seasonal nesting and hatching site for the endangered Olive Ridley turtle, Galgibaga beach is generally quite isolated, just except a few shacks selling seafood and drinks. Lying 18 km away from Canacona, southwards of Talpona river estuary, this beach is known to be the cleanest beach of Goa. Crystal clear water, silver glistening sand and, the pine and coconut trees sprinkled all around are going to cast a charm on you. Treat your eyes to the lovely scenery and admire the tranquil surrounding. As the beach is an isolated one and the food options might be limited, thus it is advisable that you carry packed one. The beach is also named as the Turtle Beach as it is one of the three Goan beaches where the state runs a program for olive turtles saving and protection and the northern part of the beach is reserved for the same. If you visit the beach between December and February, you might spot turtle eggs or nests.
Betul Beach
Also known as the fishing beach of Goa, the quiet Betul beach is located at a distance of 18 km from Margao. Blessed with a cool and serene environment, the beach looks like a typical coastal fishing villages. To get to the beach by land, one first needs to come at Morbor beach as from here you take the Cavelossim-Assolna ferry that takes you across the Sal River and finally you get down to your destination. A 17th century fort, Canaguinim beach and a small lagoon near this place are worth-visiting. The silver colored sand, the coconut palms and the fruit trees make the beach a picturesque one. If you love fishing, this is the place to be. You might also get your hand one some fresh and cheap seafood from the nearby market. The nearby restaurant serves lip-smacking fish delicacies.
Hollant Beach
One of the best secret beaches of Goa to enjoy a memorable sunrise, Hollant or Issorcim beach is quite close to the Bogmalo beach. The beautiful bay with an extended stretch has shallow water that mingles into the sea, making it a perfect sight for non-swimmers. The boats of the fishermen line the curvy shore of this rocky beach. Lying in South Goa along the foothills of the Western Ghats, the beach has some good eateries and shacks, churning out some yummy seafood dishes. The serenity, the scenic views and an unforgettable sunset view is the highlight of this beach. Very close to the beach is a Chapel where Feast of Three Kings is celebrated on the 6th January. The beach is ideal for enjoying some ‘me-time’.
Arambol Beach
The perfect beach for enjoying Barbecue evenings with your loved ones, Arambol beach is a quiet one that has lovely views of the cliffs lining both the sides of the beaches. There are restaurants and cafes nearby, for the visiting tourists. If you love swimming, this beach is a must-visit. This bohemian sort of beach makes it an ideal alternative to beaches like Calangute, if you prefer ‘less busy’ beaches. Bordering Keri Beach on the northern side and sharing its southern border with Mandrem Beach, Arambol is one of the most beautiful beaches here. A small walk lands you to a smaller beach that has a freshwater lake with thermals. Relax at this site. This beach is ideal for Yoga and Meditation sessions. This cove-like beach has a gentle curve, making it safe for swimming. The headland above offers paragliding opportunities too.
Cola Beach
Another lesser-known beach of Goa, placed in the southern part of the state, Cola beach is an ideal escape, if you wish to get away from regular tourist activity. To arrive at this beach, you need to travel southwards to Canacona on a scenic road, from here signboards will take to this flawless beach, with a lovely backdrop of coconut palm groves. This beach is around 10 km away from Agona beach and 15 km from Palolem beach, and boasts of an exotic lagoon, encircled by beach huts and Rajasthani style tents. Abundant tranquility and nature’s beauty awaits you here. Just sit back and relax, lit the bonfire and listen to the music of the waves. It is also known as the Khola beach and the Little Cola.
Agonda Beach
Around 37 km away from Margao, Agonda beach is just the ideal location for planning a picnic with your loved ones. The landscape looks pretty dramatic because of rugged cliff in the southern end with a blue sky in the backdrop. You might spot bat nests up on the trees here. The pristine, huge, serene and stunning Agonda beach has a turtle center in its middle where Olive Ridley eggs are protected. Please take note that though the waters of this beach are not for surfing and swimming but can enjoy memorable sunset walk here. This is a lovely beach for honeymooning couples.
Velsao Beach
Located northwards from the well-known Majorda and Colva beaches in South Goa, Velsao beach is yet another secret beaches of Goa which is relatively quite and breathtaking one with its soft silver sand. You do not spot crowd of tourists here but just a lifeguard and flock of avifauna friends. Visitors can partake in swimming here. While the beach road is lined by coconut groves and old bungalow, the coastal stretch alternates for a lovely countryside drive, dotted with paddy fields and lakes, decorated with lilies. This tiny beach can be reached by Bogmalo, Colva and Majorda beaches, making it ideal to spend a day here. The warm waters and pure air add to the scenic beauty of this beach and you can completely rejuvenate here, away from the crowd.
Siridao Beach
Lying close to the Zuari river estuary, around 12 km southwards from Goa capital city Panjim, Siridao beach has been blessed with a dramatic landscape of scattered rocks and smooth sandy strips. The oyster and pearl shells that get washed ashore, look extremely beautiful. The nearest attraction is The Chapel of Jesus of Nazareth, an extremely popular one in the region. If you like adventure, there are a number of mystery caves too nearby. A shell collector’s haven, this beach is a lovely place. This beach is an amazing place for honeymooning couple and seclusion seekers.
Sinquerim Beach
Located close to the very well-known Fort Aguada, right adjacent to Beach Aguada and 13 km from Panaji, Sinquerim beach is an unspoiled beach, which is a superb place to relax and enjoy lovely sunset views. Though there are a few luxury resorts close to this beach, but the environment here is pretty calm. It is a long stretch of beach with shiny soft sand where visitors can enjoy leisure walk while the cool breeze brushes past their face and the waves kiss their feet. Binge on your favorite drinks and delicacies at the nearby eateries. Enjoy swimming and beach volleyball here. Scuba diving, water skiing, fishing and wind-surfing are the other activities here.
