Tips To Buy Bridal Lingerie & Nightwear
It’s December and I can’t believe the year 2015 is almost over! Not to forget, this is also the time when we have a lot of weddings to attend. I have always loved this time of the year because weddings are so much fun irrespective of the sleepless nights we may have. The opulent outfits, the good food, music, dance sessions with family/friends, travel too. I recently attended a friend’s wedding reception last month and will be attending my bestie’s wedding in Mumbai and cousin’s wedding in Delhi (yay!).
Any way, coming to the topic, being married myself, I do get a lot of queries from my friends and from family circle about how to buy bridal/ honeymoon lingerie. Besides that I also get girls e-mailing me and asking me the same. I know for a lot, buying bridal lingerie could be quite a task. You’re rendered clueless and end up going shopping with a bunch of friends or sisters, most of which, wouldn’t have shopped bridal lingerie themselves! Of course it’s not like I have an expertise but I would definitely love to share what I know about bridal lingerie and nightwear (please do feel free to share your inputs and I’ll update it here).
TIPS TO BUY BRIDAL LINGERIE AND NIGHTWEAR:
KEEP IT SEXY:
Why? I don’t think I need to elaborate this one. So, forget simple, keep it sexy silly!
PLAN IN ADVANCE:
Don’t leave bridal and honeymoon lingerie shopping for last minute. Plan things well in advance. Decide the colors, patterns, silhouette and support you want. This all depends on your wardrobe. Your wedding lingerie needs to go with your wedding trousseau, and if you’re planning to wear a certain bra with a particular outfit, do try them together beforehand. Same works for your honeymoon lingerie as well, buy the lingerie keeping your honeymoon wardrobe in mind. And of course, wash it before you wear it!
COMFORT MATTERS:
While padded blouses/ cholis have become quite a preference now, but if you aren’t wearing a padded blouse/choli on you D-day or the ceremonies around it, don’t just go for anything fancy. Considering you may have to wear the outfit (usually extravagant ensembles) probably for a longer time, comfort is very important. Pick something which not just looks pretty and matches your outfit, but also feels good to skin, lets it breath and provides good support and fit. This works same for underwear too, I mean I don’t think you’d be comfortable wearing a thong all day under a lehnga right?!
Similarly, even on honeymoon, comfortable lingerie is a must especially if your vacation is more than just chilling at a beach in your swim suit.
WATCH THE COLOUR PALATTE:
While it’s important to match the lingerie with your wedding trousseau, keep a check that you don’t end up buying too many pieces of same or similar colour. More the colours, merrier it is! Don’t shy away from trying prints too, floral to animal prints or polkas, everything works! Even for everyday use, you don’t need to keep it plain, have something fun going on with every piece of lingerie that you buy.
ADD VOLUME:
I think it’s fun to wear push-ups once in a while, but make sure whatever you buy, looks natural. Then we also get a lot of options for convertible bras, detachable straps or strapless, wonder bras et al. Take your pick as per the purpose!
INVEST IN MATCHING SETS:
There’s nothing more sexier than matching sets, so while it’s not a mandate, but even if it’s just a plain matching set, that’d still look much hotter than a fancier looking unmatched bra and underwear.
NIGHTWEAR:
Fabric, silhouette and fit is very important. Then you can either buy individual pieces or ones that match your lingerie sets. Get something lacy, maybe in satin or silk, basically anything that looks sexy! Get colours and prints keeping your wedding & honeymoon lingerie in mind.
