It is a gruesome reality and also true that India records one of the highest numbers of murders in the whole world annually. 10. Rizwanur Rahman:
Rizwanur Rahman was a computer graphics trainer in Kolkata. The story goes that he got into a relationship with a girl based in the same city. The girl was the daughter of a top industrialist. On the morning of December 27, 2007 the body of the boy was mysteriously found lying on the railways track. It was later declared as a cold bloodied murder though local police denied the accusations initially. At present the case is under CBI investigation.
9. Naina Sahni:
One of the most highlighted murder cases in Indian media is the Naina Sahni murder case. It made national headlines for quite some time. Former youth Congress party leader Sushil Sharma on the apprehension of his wife Naina having illicit relationship outside the marriage with a man, murdered her and later chopped her body into parts and stuffed them in the clay oven of Bagiya restaurant in New Delhi on the night of July 2,1995.
8. Shivani Bhatnagar:
Haryana cadre IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma was charged with the murder of Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar on January 23, 1999. The reason was that the police officer had fear of her going public about their hidden affiliation. The incident also made huge hue and cry in the public for many days and the cop was later arrested on murder charges.
7. Knanaya Roman Catholic nun:
The case was reported in 1992. A nineteen year old nun was found dead in water well in St PiusX convent in Kottayam, Kerala. Initially the reason was concluded as suicide by the police, but later on the basis of petition filed by the nuns of the congregation the was case re-opened. It lead to arrest of two priests and a nun on charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
6. Anju Illyasi:
Producer and anchor of one of the most famous TV shows “India’s Most Wanted”, Suhaib Illyasi was accused of murdering his wife Anju Illyasi on March 27, 2000. He was booked under charges of cruelty, harassment and demand for dowry. Surprisingly the deceased’s mother and sister sided with their daughter during the trial, but her father and brother aligned with the accused terming it as a suicide.
5. Priyadarshini Mattoo:
The Delhi University student, Priyadarshini Mattoo was killed by her stalker Santosh Singh on January 23, 1996. She got trapped into claws of death one fine day when her security officer was not alongside. Her stalker, a son of an IPS officer got the chance and struck. She had complained almost six times regarding the threat, to the police before the incident. She was 24 at the time of her death.
4. Jessica Lal:
On April 30, 1999, in a party organized by a socialite Bina Ramani, in a south Delhi bar, one of the guests, the son of a Congress politician, Manu Sharma opened fire on a model turned bartender, Jessica Lal. She had turned away his request to provide more liquor after the closing hours, which infuriated him and he shot her on the forehead in front of the whole public. The murder drew huge outrage from the public and ultimately the accused was put behind bars.
3. Passi murder case:
On March 26,1999, Rati Passi, a 20 year old Delhi University student was found murdered in her apartment. This murder case hogged limelight for substantial amount of time in the media. It was only after 4 long months that police arrested five men. Though the pretext of murder is still unknown and the case would proceed forward for two more years.
2. Ponty Chadha:
The famous liquor baron and owner of multi-million conglomerate “Waves”, Ponty Chadha was found murdered along with his brother in the Chattararpur farm house in New Delhi on November 17, 2012. The reason attributed to death was the property dispute. Both brothers opened fire at each other after a scuffle erupted between them. The case is still under investigation.
1. Aarushi Talwar:
The case which is still under analysis of Investigative agencies is about the murder of the only daughter of the doctor couple. On May 16, 2008, Aarushi Talwar, an ADOPTED child of the Talwar’s was found murdered in her room along with the servant Hemraj. The parents of the girl, Dr.Rajesh and Nupur Talwar are the prime accused in the murder case. The case is still remains under trail.
