Gatimaan Express launched: A look at top 7 Super fast trains in India!
Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the nation's semi-bullet train which would commute to and fro from New Delhi to Agra.
New Delhi, Apr 5: India’s fastest train, Gatimaan Express was flagged off on Tuesday. The train will run between Hazrat Nizammudin in Delhi to Agra Cantt and complete the distance in 100 minutes or 1 hour 40 minutes. Until now, The Shatabdis along with The Rajdhani were known for its speed, now with the new launch, Gatimaan, Indians will have better trains with quality and speed.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off the nation’s first semi-bullet train which would commute to and fro from New Delhi to Agra. The train would ply at a speed of 160 km/hr.
While, Indian Railways is all set to create history with this fully equipped train, we look back at the other fastest trains in India.

1. New Delhi- Bhopal Shatabdi Express (150 km/h)
The New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express is one of the fastest trains in the country. Introduced in 1988 between Delhi and Agra, the train was initially extended to Gwalior and later to Bhopal. The New Delhi-Bhopal train runs at a speed of 150 km/h (93 mph).
2. Nizamuddin – Bandra Garib Rath (130 km/hr)
Garib Rath is fully air-conditioned train which was introduced in 2005. The train charges normal fares and tries to provide quality facilities to passengers. It was one among the super-fast express trains in India. It covers a distance of 1,366 kms in 16 hours and 30 minutes. It has an average speed of 130 km/hr.
3. Sealdah-New Delhi Duronto (91.13 km/hr)
This train connects West Bengal to New Delhi and does not halt at any station in between. Sealdah-New Delhi Duronto Express is considered to be the most time-efficient and fastest train on Grand Chord rout. It runs at an average speed of 91.13 km/hr.
4. Mumbai- New Delhi Rajdhani Express (90.46 km/h)
Introduced in 1972 the Mumbai- New Delhi Rajdhani Express is known for its speed. It is the second fastest train in the country. After electrification, the train now has speed of 90.46 km/h (excluding halts). Earlier it covered 1385 kms in 19 hours and 5 minutes.
5. Kanpur -New Delhi Kanpur Reverse Shatabdi (89.63 km/hr)
Kanpur New Delhi Shatabdi Express is called the Kanpur Reverse Shatabdi because of its reserve schedule of Lucknow Shatabdi Express. After Lucknow Swarna Shatabdi Express, Kanpur-New Delhi Shatabdi Express is the second train for Kanpur Central which goes from New Delhi to Kanpur. This train runs at an average speed of about 89.63 km/hr and covers a maximum distance of 441 kms. It cover New Delhi to Kanpur in 44 minutes.
6. New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani (88.21 km/hr)
This Rajdhani Express runs between Kolkata and New Delhi. Howrah Rajdhani was the first Rajdhani train introduced by Indian Railways. It had fully air-conditioned coaches and is the first train to have five AC-2 tier coaches in India. It has an average speed of 88.21 km/hr and is considered the fifth fastest train in India. It travels from New Delhi station to Howrah station in 17 hours 20 minutes covering a distance of 1,445 km.
7. New Delhi-Allahabad Duronto Express (86.85 km/hr)
This train connecting New Delhi to Duronto was inaugurated in 2012. It runs at an average speed of 86.85 km/hr. It is also the fastest train between Mumbai and Allahabad covering a distance of 19 hours and 20 minutes at a lesser time. The train uses refurbished Rajdhani Express coaches.
